The Edmonton Elks are not being honest with their fans.

 

It seems like a day doesn't go by when I don't read some CFL chat group online that brings up the rumour about the Edmonton Elks changing their name back to the Eskimos. Rumours that they "couldn't get it done" in time for the 2025 schedule, or that "the CFL requires the new owner to own the team for 1 year before being allowed to change the name", seem to be repeated all over the internet. Sports writers tweeting that the name is coming back is something we see more and more. 

Aug 15th 2024 was the day the new owner took over. That means IF they are changing the name back, we are less than a month away. We know the Elks recently trademarked the "Edmonton Eskimos" name. We know they put the name back on the fire truck. The old sign is back above the locker room. If fans are not confused, I imagine the players are. Tre Ford was never an Eskimo. 

The team is struggling this year. The rumours are not doing the team any favours, and it is not fair to fans. It is time Chris Morris comes clean and makes a statement one way or another. A clear statement that "This team will forever be known as the Edmonton Elks, there is no way we are changing the name back. The Eskimos are history". 

The fans deserve nothing less. There are people spending hard earned money right now buying clothing that says "Elks". There are others that are hoping that the name will be going back....they really believe it. It is time for the Elks to settle it ONCE AND FOR ALL.  

Do you know how stupid fans will feel that bought "Elks" clothing only for the team to go BACK? 

The team is not honest with its fans. They need to make a statement. NOW.
